Island life

Eiland De Woude is a polder surrounded by the Alkmaardermeer, the Markervaart and the Stierop.
It is only accessible by boat or by ferry (sailing time 1 minute) over the Markervaart and that alone gives a unique holiday feeling.
The island is for the most part under state forest management, it is a unique bird area.
It is certainly worthwhile to walk around the island, in one and a half to two hours you will discover all the beautiful places.
About 165 people live on the island, there are two cafe restaurants and a church and community center. There are no stores outside of an ice cream and candy store.
In short, a village where time goes at least a bit slower.

There are lots of nice trips in the area. The Zaanse Schans, Volendam, De Beemster and the theorem of Amsterdam can be reached in 10 to 30 minutes by car.
The location of the island in relation to Schiphol sometimes means that the peace and quiet is disrupted by aircraft, but this inconvenience is generally not experienced as particularly disturbing.
